German actor Fritz Wepper, who starred in the 1972 classic Cabaret, has died at the age of 82. German newspaper Bild reported that he died at a hospice facility in his hometown of Munich on Monday. The Hollywood Reporter reported that the actor had life-threatening sepsis last year. Wepper was just 18 when he scored his big break in the Oscar-nominated film The Bridge. However, he is probably best know for his role as gigolo Fritz Wendel in the 1972 musical Cabaret, in which he starred alongside Liza Minnelli and Joel Grey. Wepper shunned Hollywood after the success of Cabaret, instead opting to work in Germany, including in the long-running series Derrick (1974-98). However, he did appear in the 2001 TV film Murder on the Orient Express, alongside Alfred Molina. He is survived by his second wife, Susanne Kellermann, 45, whom he married in 2020, and their 13-year-old daughter Filippa, as well as his eldest daughter Sophie, 42, who he shares with his first wife, Angela Wepper von Morgen, and a granddaughter, born in 2018.
